Understanding synastry

A reference library for Sun signs, planetary placements and synastry. Start with the information you have, understand the method, and keep uncertainty visible.

What is synastry?

Synastry compares two natal charts through planetary placements and the aspects between them. Read each aspect in the context of both complete charts, where attraction, communication, emotional rhythm and long-term themes form one relationship pattern.

Read the method first

  • What birth information is reliable?
  • Which placements are being compared?
  • How does the interpretation fit the rest of the chart?

Separate the inputs from the interpretation. Identify which chart factors are known, which depend on a birth time, and which conclusions go beyond what the information supports.

Read the distinction carefully

Keep natal aspects within one chart separate from synastry aspects between two charts. A strong reading names both people’s relevant planets, the longitudes, the separation and the selected orb. Editorial chart artwork expresses the pattern; the exact interpretation begins with the underlying positions.
